Why Inspiration Exchange began
Having spent most of her career in PR / communications / engagement / marketing roles in the membership sector, Lindsey Collumbell increasingly felt there was something missing. After chatting to peers working in the sector, Lindsey realised there was no ‘home’ for people in these roles to go for advice on how to tackle a challenge, gain insight on what works well or what doesn’t, be inspired to do great work, and find support from fellow professionals who understand the sector. Individuals tend to rely on a network who most likely work in other sectors, or cold-call membership counterparts in anticipation that they are willing to impart their advice and experience.
Connecting with people who understand membership is key – there are organisations which provide guidance, advice and networks in the round, but the people Lindsey spoke to wanted more – they wanted to connect with people who understood specifically the trials and tribulations of communicating with and marketing to members.
Inspiration Exchange was created to be that ‘home’.
To connect, inspire and support membership PR and marketing professionals to discuss challenges, gain insight from the experience of others and achieve more.
What we do
The heart of Inspiration Exchange is the #MembershipMeets sessions. These are when the Community comes together to connect, inspire and support each other.
As challenges and issues won’t just crop up to coincide with our #MembershipMeets sessions, we created The Hub and The Collective so you get access to the Community and their advice and guidance wherever and whenever you need it.
#MembershipMeets – informal gatherings with your peers to discuss challenges, gain insights and help each other find solutions … under the Chatham House Rule
The Hub – the password-protected area of our website stores resources from the Community, such as case studies, winning award entries, white papers, and responses to The Collective for the Community to access and learn from 24/7
The Collective is how the hive mind of the Inspiration Exchange community is harnessed and is available to all professionals who work in PR / Comms / Marketing roles in the membership sector, as well as for service providers.
Anyone who works in a PR / communications / engagement / marketing role in an organisation which has members, whether working in-house, agency, freelance, independent or as an interim practitioner can be part of the Inspiration Exchange community. The admissions criteria is simple – as long as you are engaged in activities on a day-to-day basis which fall under this banner then you are most welcome to join the Inspiration Exchange community. Before being accepted, or allowed to attend a #MembershipMeets session, you need to show proof of eligibility, for example, evidence of membership of a relevant professional body, e.g. CIPR, CIM, IOIC, PRCA, your CV, or LinkedIn profile.
Partnership with the Community
Partnership is available to suppliers of products or services to the membership sector. Before being accepted as a Partner, or allowed to attend a #MembershipMeets session, you need to be recommended by someone who works in PR / Comms / Marketing in the membership sector or provide one referee of a client in the membership sector for us to verify your standing with. Once accepted as a partner, your involvement is in an educational capacity to advise and assist, and is not an overt sales opportunity. To ensure you get the maximum benefit from your involvement with the Community, you will be asked your area/s of expertise so we can closely match you with challenges expressed by the Community for you to provide the appropriate solutions / advice.
PR / Comms / Marketing professionals – You don’t have to sign your life away in order to become part of the Inspiration Exchange community as you can experience #MembershipMeets on a Pay-As-You-Go basis.
